As I was reading the Chelsea report for chelseafc.com I saw the formation that was used during the game. It said 4-1-4-1, so I must guess its something like this. Who thinks otherwise?
The attacking midfielders should be center-midfielders. That's my mistake. Everytime I think of Deco, Lampard, or Ballack I think of attacking midfielders.
I thought Scolari's Chelsea usually described their formation as 4-5-1 with a shielding midfielder. Interesting to hear it described this way. I guess it differs from Mourinho's 4-3-3 in that under Mourinho, the 3 midfielders were expected to spread across the width more between themselves, whereas Scolari has the wingers dropping back and guarding the corridors.
I heard somewhere that Chelsea are trying to sit back more and get teams to come out to them now rather than going gung ho attack and finding they don't get the space.
