The truth is, defending is a hard, tactical, bone breaking, nerve racking job. Defending is an art. So, next time you watch a football game don't just admire a great pass or a great finish. Agent_LewisNot so fast, Red. I can't speak about everyone else, but I can appreciate good defending. Pompey, for example, did an excellent job in maintaining their shape and working for a point against Chelsea during Tuesday's fixture, but a miscue on their behalf did them in. On the other hand, I get ticked off at lousy defending, especially if it comes from Marco Materazzi of Inter. Can we send him off to AC Milan with a boatload of money for Alessandro Nesta? Please?

Robert O'CarlosCan't help but think that sounds like a dig at my last comment there, RR.
Like the maxim at the end of this clip says, play hard but play fair. Defending is about stopping your opponent playing and is not there to be pretty. As long as it's within the laws of the game, it's all about stopping the flow of a move or simply getting something in the way of a cross or shot.

prekaziwell, defending in football is of course important and difficult. but i would say it is no where near defending in Basketball when it comes to fun or beauty of it!
