RedrebelIn my opinion the reason why Man U is so great is because of their defense nothing else.

Robert O'Carlos2 words to consider: Alex Ferguson. Undoubtedly the finest UK manager ever.
:-)

In terms of playing style, RedRebel calls it right that the cornerstone of every great team is the defence. But they do also have a world class front line, which I don't think RedRebel was necessarily discounting. Like the old football adage goes, "defend from the front, attack from the back".
:-)

I've not seen it on This11 yet, but I've heard a few comments (including from Factman Benitez) that Man Utd won the title because they threw money at it. Perhaps their depth of squad, and the fact they can afford to keep such a squad, was a deciding factor. But, rather than relying on a rich benefactor who invests heavily in the team, Man Utd have earned their money through prolonged success. Nowhere is this better demonstrated than '92/'93 where they won the EPL with a team of youth players working around Eric Cantona, who had been bought for £1M. Success like that attracts fans and brings in the money.

nvrThey have a lot of attacking talent as well,no? Ronaldo, Berbatov, Rooney, Tevez...There are managers who would kill to get their hands on one of these guys.

RedrebelYes, they do have a lot of attacking talent. But, as long as you can attack without having the fear of being scored on it builds confidence and precision. Just like Robert said it, teams are built from the back to the front.

Robert O'CarlosThought I should put this one up. This was the team that turned out for the last day of the Premier League and played out a 1-0 win (albeit against Hull).

Kuszczak; Rafael, Neville, Brown, de Laet; Martin, Fletcher, Gibson, Nani; Macheda, Welbeck.

I would say this team hints at the high level of the younger players coming through behind the scenes at United which is another indication of why United are so consistent.

FeriAtsThrowing money at it does not bring you success, at least not continuosly. Look at Chelsea and Liverpool...You have to throw your money to right players to keep it going.

SAF found the sweet spot between Wenger's ways and Abramovich's ways.

RedrebelIt's also about the internal relations between players, coaches, directors. When everybody gets along things run smoothly.

26.05.2009

Robert O'CarlosExactly right, Red. The one word you'd always hear from the United players describing the setup is family.
:-)

RedrebelMan U won't be the same when Ferguson leaves.

RedrebelBarcelona the best team in Europe!!!!!

27.05.2009

nvrVidic on his knees at the first goal and Ferdinand letting a very short Messi to head a ball at the second. Meanwhile Barca palying Puyol at right back, Toure as central defender and with their second choice left back. How about that?

RedrebelThat was very smart by Guardiola.
