Quoted as 4-3-1-2 or 4-3-2-1 in most Brazilian publications but illustrated asymmetrically like so.
-Robinho: second-striker/false winger
-Kaka: advanced playmaker,mediapunta, trequartista
-Ramires (or Dani Alves): 'carrilero'/wide-midfielder = box-to-box
-Maicon: attacking full-back
Andre Santos/Kleber: attacking full-back
-Gilberto Silva: "head-of-the-box", ultra defensive holding mid. slotting between centre-backs
-F. Melo: holding midfielder..greater responsibility for covering advancing full-backs

Isn't it a bit rich to call Alves a midfielder? He is a right back; surely he attacks a lot but still...

Not really. In Brazil, an attacking full-back who is positionally suspect, poor at tucking in, and can't defend crosses is re-designated an 'ala' - somewhere between a wing-back and a box-to-box wide midfielder.
Dunga played Alves in this role in the Copa America final with Maicon ( who is more reliable around the box )at right-back.
