catenacc10A typical 4x3x3 design, with 2 new signings: Fabregas + David Villa. Very attractive style of play, based on a high dynamic tactical aspects of the game, with all arounds players passing & moving football. Nice?

Jericho09It's hard to believe but Zlatan is more a wing than a simple striker. When he was at Inter Milan he loved to play in the right side or in the left one. Not the middle.

catenacc10Depends which system coach wants him to play. At Inter, with Mourinho, sometimes 4x4x2 diamond was choosen and Zlatan got company up front. But, most of the time, Mourinho preferred a more direct style and Ibrahimovic represent, as n.º 9, the target striker, offensive reference for whole team.

visca_el_barcaXavi will not play defensive midfield, there has to one proper defensive midfielder in the system with some height. This was the problem in 07/08 when they tried a midfield of Deco, Xavi, and Iniesta which was too short and lacked a ball winner. Pep will not make the same mistake so Busquets (possibly Yaya if he stays) will be a starter, and Xavi, Cesc, and Iniesta will rotate - remembering Iniesta can play in one of the wing spots and Villa at centre forward. So there's plenty of verstility to rotate with - assuming of course we sign Cesc.

catenacc10True visca_el_barca. Lot's of possibilities are possible. I just draw one of them, with some conditions included as new transfers.

vertigoI agree with visca_el_barca. Xavi never as anchor (defensive midfielder). For that place, Barça needs more strenght, weight, heading and tackling, in order to increase physical dimension of the game on that zone of the pitch. At moment Busquets or Yaya (probably he will goes away)

jeb_springfieldI think the best way for Barcelona to play next season would be a 4-diamond-2 with Busquets or Toure in the holding midfielder's position and Xavi, Iniesta and Fabregas cycling for the central midfield positions. Messi could play directly behind the strikers with Ibrahimovic and Villa playing centrally, in their favored positions. This would also leave the option to put either Fabregas or Iniesta behind the strikers and would encourage the fullbacks to push forwards.

The system would require zonal pressure and movement, and probably a fair amount of positional interchange, but Barcelona do all of that anyway.

vertigojeb_springfield, your vision seems possible in some specific games, but in the general, I think Barça will continue to play a 4-3-3 assymetric. Sergio in holding midfield position. Xavi centre-right, Iniesta/Keita centre-left. Messi starting from right to centre behind Villa. Pedro/Iniesta from the left. Cesc, if he really come, will play in the midlle cycling with Keita or Xavi.
