The captain against South Africa was Alou Diarra, who's a holding midfielder. William Gallas and Sebastien Squillaci played at centre-back.

i doubt he will bring mexes back, and the likes of briand and menez are not good enough to start, maybe not even for the bench. diaby played quite well in SA, maybe he can push for a start alongside lass, push gourcuff further forward as the playmaker, switch nasri to the right and maybe someone like ben arfa can come in on the left. tremoulinas is an interesting choice and certainly a valid one considering his bordeaux ties. as for the other centerhalf position alongside toulalan, maybe psg's sakho or lorient's (soon to be arsenal) koscielny, bordeaux's ciani should be considered as candidates.
