Liverpool 2010/11 4-4-2

  • alphachibeta @ 30.07.2010

Here's how Liverpool could play a 4-4-2/4-4-1-1 like Hodgson used with Fulham (against Wolfsburg in the Europa League for example). Torres in the Bobby Zamora role, with Gerrard or Cole in the Gera role behind him. Right-footed Dirk Kuyt, like Clint Dempsey for Fulham, plays on the left like he did for Holland. Similarly, left-footed Jovanovic plays on the right like Damian Duff did for Fulham. Playing inverted wingers like that allows them to cut inside. Kuyt had a great World Cup on the left for Holland, cutting inside to attack, or into the center of midfield to help with possession. I have to confess, I don't know much about Jovanovic (except that he's left-footed and plays up top or on the wing), so I don't know if he would work as an inside out winger. This all depends on them retaining Kuyt, too. It looks like Rafa wants to bring him to Inter.

Correction: "against Hamburg in the Europa League" rather than "Wolfsburg."
