England should play this, using Rooney as a false 9. When defending the formation has 6 players in midfield, then on the counter if the fullbacks go forward then Gerrard+Lampard go back, if we attack from the wings then both gerrard, lampard go forward Rooney goes deeper, Adam Johnson cuts inside with Cole pushing forward.
Rooney is not really in his top form now, is he? Bent deserves a start ahead of him. Shame Defoe is out injured.

Bent can't play that role, you need an second striker. Lampard and Gerrard struggled in the England team together but this sort of system could work for them. Rooney is off form at the moment but he's the best striker we have
