4-1-4-1 -> 4-3-2-1
A strong defensive line with the full backs not really having to overlap. But not afraid to push up towards the halfway line when needed.
1 defensive midfielder with 4 in front to link the play. The central 2 as attacking runners with the wide 2 supporting with passes and coming inside when necessary to make it 4-3-2-1.
A strong forward. Probably a Mark Hughes type that can receive the ball and hold it up until support arrives.
Kind of like the Czech team of 4/5 years back. But you'd need the right players here. Galasek held this formation together for the Czechs.

maybe a 4-3-1-2 solves that a bit, but u need a very solid defensive midfielder so the wing midfielders can deploy to the wings
