RedrebelIf I was the coach for this team this is the way I would play, and for all those back four lovers three defenders is enough if you are going to have the possesion of the ball. I am sick of people thinking having a back four is the best. Well, let me tell you people, having a back four is the best for some teams, but understand Spain is the best national team in the world, and it's proven look at FIFA rankings. If you have the best team in the world why be defensive? Defensive teams never win anything nor do super offensive teams. The best teams in the world have a point of equilibrium. With this formation in my opinion Spain would succeed even more.

nvrDefensive teams never win anything? Did you hear about a country called Italy? You'd better check their track record in club and national levels.
As for Spanish being the the top in the rankings, well, this is a very weak argument. We all know that the difference among the teams in top 30 is only marginal and these teams can beat each other anywhere and anyday. They also happen to have strikers which play in top leagues day in day out and these guys are experts in spotting vulnerabilities in a defense and exploit it.
If Del Bosque creates a vulnerability by fielding 3 defenders who are so used to playing a 4 men set-up, he will pay the price for doing so. And believe me, that price will not be lower than a terrible humiliation.

sp88Spain are a very good national team but don't get carried away! ;)
And remember who were the European champions before Spain - Greece were built around defending and springing long passes for 2 wingers and a tall centre forward. In cup competitions, it's not always the best team who win.
