RedrebelAs I was studying English Teams and Italian Teams I found out that they have a lot of differences. Today, the Barclays Premier League is the best in the world there is no doubt about that. But, the question is "why"? Because English teams by a lot of foreign players. If you look at Arsenal their starting 11 doesn't have any English men. Chelsea in their starting 11 have 4 English men, Lampard, Ashley Cole, Joe Cole, and Terry. Manchester United has about 5 in their starting 11 depending on the coaches decision, Scholes, Carrick, Ferdinand, Neville, Rooney. Liverpool has 4 or 3, Gerrard, Carragher, and etcet. Than, as I look at Italian Teams like AC Milan I see 4 Italians in their starting 11, AS Roma has about 5, Juventus has about 6 in their starting 11, and Inter which is the most international of all has 2 or 1 depending on their formation. This tells me that in the Italian league Italians have more opportunities than English men. Than, I look at the Italian National Team and English National Team. The Italians have more high class world players from where to choose from than the English. That is why they have 4 worlds cups, compared to England's only 1. Than, you look at the lesser teams in England like Everton, Aston Villa, etcet. most of them have more than 3 foreign players in their starting 11. Than, you look at the Italian lesser teams and most of their starting 11 is made of Italians like Palermo, Cagliary, Genova, etcet. At club level in European/Champions League cup English Teams have 11 cups won and 9 runner-ups while Italians have 11 cups won and 14 runner-ups. So, which do you prefer Serie A or Barclays Premier?

nvrWell, you are undoubtedly right about the trophies. But Italian football is a nightmare to watch. No pace, no action...Barclays Premier is a show and hence the most watched league on the world.

If only English could take penalties better, the thropy stats might have been a lot different.

Robert O'CarlosLiking that reply, Nvr. Not all about the penalties tho, sadly.
:-(
Too many times, England have tried to sit on a 1 goal lead instead of chasing the 2nd goal cushion.
Where do you guys stand on the nationality of a manager debate. Personally I think Sven was the best manager we had in years and I'm liking Capello too (started weakly but I can see what he was doing).

nvrIt was a tongue in cheek reference to sad memories of the past :)

It is obvious that Italian football is more suited to tournements. Lots of defending works pretty well when a draw is as good as a win. 1 win 2 draws take you out of groups stage in a World Cup, and then you can make your way to finals only with draws and penalties.

I wonder what the W/D/L stats for national sides. Does anyone have a linky?

19.12.2008

Robert O'CarlosI wonder where England would have ended up if Portugal took the first pen when Beckham slipped on the sandy mud.
:-D
If Portugal had effed up their first kick and tipped the England boys off about the dodgy spot . . .

19.12.2008

RedrebelYou guys are right Italian football is sometimes boring to watch.

19.12.2008

theformationnerd123Same right here with Nvr. Italian is a night mare. so Barclays Premier league.

CaptainGerardAren't some of the Italian players in the national side of Argentinian origin? It's a grass is greener on the other side situation when it comes to number of foreign players and national sides. England was not that successful before Bosman ruling, and still behind others after it. So what's the fuss about?

23.12.2008

Robert O'CarlosThe Argentinian Italians are being investigated for procuring a change of nationality with false documents. Could all end in tears.

24.12.2008

Agent_LewisI've seen both, and for me, I like Serie A, due to it being more defensive minded. Trying to figure out the best solution to score against a tough defense - kind of like a chess match on grass.

20.01.2009

RedrebelNothing is going to happen to the players I bet.

21.01.2009

RedrebelBy the way the only Argentine Italian that plays for Italy is Camoranesi.

21.01.2009

hchoSerie A is having the most boring seasons ever since relegation of Juventus. Inter's squad is too powerful for the rest of the league. No competition, no joy...

27.01.2009

RedrebelDon't worry Juventus is climbing up.

27.01.2009

hchoTrue, Juve had a decent run lately. But I still doubt that they can keep it up for too long. IMHO they need another season under their belts to establish themselves as serious title contenders.

Even then it's a 2 horse race. Premiership at this stage has 5 teams who can win the league.
