Robert O'CarlosAnother just for fun.
Any Arsenal fans on here want to argue the toss about who'd get in your all time XI?
Anyone who should get in? Bastin? Pires? Graham?

FeriAtsCole? The one we name Cashley? Legend? Over goood old Winterburn?

20.12.2008

Robert O'CarlosLiking it, FeriAts.
:-D
You can probably tell I'm not a Gooner. But, sentiment aside, was Winterburn as good as Cole? This is the same Ashley Cole who was once described as the best left back in the world (before he went to Chelsea and had his attacking instincts curbed).
So the only change you'd make is at left back?

20.12.2008

FeriAtsWell if it was "Best players Arsenal had" topic, I wouldn't mind Cole there, but a legend? No. Winterburn with 13 years of loyal service gets the spot.

Fabregas might get in here if he stick around for a couple of years.

IIHickeyIIget seaman out of goal, lol remember the world cup blunder he made when he decided to charge out of goal and ronaldinho smacked it into the top right corner. i was gutted mate, but hes still a good keeper.

Robert O'CarlosFair comment there, FeriAts. Not being a Gooner, I'll bow to your take on Cole v. Winterburn. Nigel Winterburn it is.
:-D
Who would you have in goal instead, Hickey? Wilson? Jennings?
Seaman wasn't quite charging out of goal. He just got caught out by Ronaldinho's incredibly lucky free kick. Probably got his position wrong, but you couldn't assume Ronaldinho was going to put the ball there, surely?
:-D
Would you guys agree with playing a front 3 of Henry, Wright and Bergkamp? I wasn't sure whether to bolster the midfield at the expense of Wright.

21.12.2008

FeriAtsI guess we never had a keeper that could be considered a legend. The day we find a decent keeper will be the end of football.

I'd probably drop Henry behind Bergkamp and Wright. Similar to the he plays in Barcelona...

Feverif this is a all-time arsenal x1, eddie hapgood and george male piss over everyone as full-backs.

also, ted drake > ian wright

SpaceGhostWith a three man front Henry and Wright wider, but Bergkamp still dropping deeper than the wings. That is what he would do.

Robert O'CarlosThought about Hapgood when I originally drew this one up. No reason at all he shouldn't be included. My suggestions were only to get things started.
:-)

The one thing I would say is that Hapgood, although termed a full back, would not have been an overlapping full back like we have today, as I've used in this formation. Even under Chapman, his role would have been more like a modern day centre back.
:-)

But with the 3 players Fever mentions here, I'm not old enough to have seen them so I wouldn't be able to compare them to their more modern counterparts.
