RossiW54The team I think could finally take Arsenal to some silverware.

nvrThere are reports on the media that Arsene Wenger will be given a kitty of £40M for the summer. However I doubt that he will splash that money on big names like David Villa. He'll probably reinforce the defense, defensive midfield and striker positions.

CingularLove Subotic but Boateng is a CB/DM or at the very least horrible fit as an Arsenal wingback.

FeriAtsArsenal don't do rebuilds, only partial updates. I don't think we need a new right back. I love the idea of a new keeper, anyone but Almunia.

kabulblueUmm...Chamakh is a central striker and would be useless out wide and David Villa will also cost 40M on his own. I reckon you need to rethink this.

nvrPapers claim Wenger is after Frey or Adler. If he lands one of these it would be an instant 10+ points for Arsenal. But we all know Wenger, he'll go and buy a no name 17 year old from Eastern Europe and a 35+ keeper who ran out of contract with his current club.

AgurkOh. What a team!

But what about Bendtner? :)

Robert O'CarlosNot to mention that a fair chunk of the 40m being talked of is also to be used for any upgrades to the current squad.
:-)

For instance, Fabregas has been offered a 3m re-signing fee and an improved wage structure which will likely take care of more than 5m of that 40m.

nvrActually a World Cup year is a good one to reinforce a squad. As long as you don't fall into the trap of chasing players who had a good tournement. So even if Wenger spends half of that money on keeping players, the other half will be enough for 3 or 4 decent players.

foxrocksThat looks a rather lightweight midfield IMO. I don't think you can play Arshavin there in a 4-3-3.

Chamakh is going to sign when the window opens, but as people have pointed out, he is very much a centre forward. He is not a prolific goalscorer, but is excellent at holding the ball up and is good in the air. He should provide much needed cover for Van Persie when he inevitably gets injured next season, with RVP perhaps even dropping to one of the wide positions in the front three.

As for the rest, Villa is surely not going to Arsenal, and Boateng is going to Man City. Lloris would cost an awful lot of money and would have little motiviation to leave Lyon. Dortmund have valued Subotic at £15m+, so there may be centre halves around that offer better value, such as Simon Kjaer, who apparently has an £11m buyout clause.

I fear that Wenger may just replace Gallas with Kjaer, Vertonghen, Diakhate etc, sign Chamakh, and then leave it at that. I hope I'm wrong because in addition to those signings we could really use a better keeper, and a tough-tackling defensive midfielder. This player could primarily act as cover for Song while also allowing us to play 4-2-3-1 against certain teams.
