iguana4-2-3-1
if playing with double pivot then no point of xavi as he works best as a central midfielder not attacking midfielder.
this formation also allows for Fabregas' driving runs so he can support Villa, and if he plays as a false nine then he can move ahead and silva or iniesta can retreat slightly and support midfield

nvrIsn't this a bit too defensive for Spain?

JimmyGuitaristI'm not convinced that formations actually dictate how defensive or attacking a team plays. You can have a five-man defence which could be attacking. It's the mentality in how you play the formation rather than how it looks on paper.
This is the formation Spain generally use, but they need to start using natural wingers to stop them from playing so narrowly. I mean the way they play, it's essential to have width to stretch there opponents defence and with Iniesta and Silva as wingers, they don't provide no width at all and they become too predictable.
I actually think they should just go to a 4-3-3 with Fabregas as the false-9. It's ridiculous really, but I just think Del Bosque should basically field Barcelona.
If you have Pedro, he provides width anyway but if you go for Silva then Ramos would have a lot of running to do down that right wing. I'd have Busquets over Alonso because tiki-taka starts with him and just keeps the flow of the quick passing.
