TheNearPostThis could definitely be something Juergen throws out there, and it could work. The big key here is Dempsey's role in relation to Donovan. Dempsey will draw the attention of the number 10 a bit more, which should allow Donovan to make use of the space behind him. The thing about Landon is that he doesn't really do well when directly marked. You have to find where he's going to get space or find a way of making space for him. Dempsey is completely different in that he seems to almost thrive on 1v1 duels with other players. He's a naturally combative player that looks forward to challenges such as these. He hunts space down and is just a direct threat.
As before, the key here is to find Landon Donovan in the space between lines and move off of him. The opponent's shape should suffer when they try to find a player to close him down, which opens up spaces.
