RedrebelIf we look at Chelsea we can see they have a lot of talent, a lot of midfielders. But not just any type of midfieldersl; all terrain-midfielders. With Alex, Terry, and Belleti as center-backs shouldn't be a problem because they will be supported by Essien and Ballack. People might ask why Ballack as defensive mid? Well, if you know Ballack he can play anywhere,in Bayern Munich he played defensive midfielder sometimes, and also in German national team. As outside midfielders Malouda and Wright-phillips would be a pain for the opposing team's full-backs. Now, Lampard should play as a left forward, or in some places its called interior forward with Deco doing the same thing but on the right, and Drogba as striker this formation would be very effective because most teams in England play with a back four, and with Chelsea using this formation would overpower the defense because first of all there is going to be 3 forwards. How can two center-backs mark two forwards unless a midfielder comes and marks one of them, but if that happens Chelsea will hold midfield for the whole game and do as they please. Now for the outside midfielders they will be marked by the opposing team's full-backs and outside midfielders. But the trick is there will only be one midfielder in the midfield against two Chelsea midfielders because one will have to mark of Chelsea's forward giving Chelsea the advantage. This formation can crush the simple 4-4-2 with ease.

ZolaIf there's one thing this formation can crush, it is the manager's contract. Defending the flanks is at Mercy of Malouda and Wright-Phillips(who doesn't play for Chelsea any more, but let's leave this aside for the sake of argument). These two will not be able to stop crosses coming into our box. Anyone who can outsmart or outmuscle Terry for a berief second will score.

There's a reason managers play 4 man defense and that's simply because no one can afford the opponent's winger crossing the ball freely into their box. Get real.

sp88This formation would be a recipe for disaster. End of. Even Chelsea's best central defender, Carvalho, would be able to tell you that from the bench(?).
