RedrebelIf I recall in my mind I can't think of any team that has "ever" used this formation in professional football. So, that is why I call it undiscovered, though some people might of already have thought about it. I seriously think this formation can be used in professional football because the 5-3-2 is somewhat similar to this. The only difference is that this formation has attack minded wingers instead of back and forth wing-backs. What do you guys think? Do you think it can work?

bruno7i guess its ok but there is nobody to feed to out of the back with the mids dropped in on D....unless the central strikers drop in....heres an idea depending on where the ball is have the strong side wing mid drop in and the weak side central striker so there is still play up top

RedrebelNot a bad idea.

nvrThere's only so many combinations you can have with 10 players and 3(or 4) lines. You are fast approaching to end of this. I suggest you take rugby union after that. It has more player and more positions in it :)
On a serious note, I remember you mentioning watching a lot of footie. I'd rather see real analysis of some of these games instead of hypotetical formations like this. How would you play Real Madrid against Barca if you were Juande Ramos?

Robert O'CarlosZzzzzzzzz ...
Sorry, fell asleep at the mention of rugby there.
;-)

Robert O'CarlosClosest I've seen to this would be a team playing a 3 man defense, wing backs, 1 defensive midfielder, 2 attacking midfielders and 2 forwards. But never a 3-3-4.
Except maybe Middlesbrough under McLaren when they were losing in the UEFA Cup quarters and semis a few years back.
;-)
I wonder if Mourinho ever tried anything similar to this if chasing a goal. He seemed to have a fondness for the unconventional formations. Which is no bad thing.

RedrebelFirst of all nvr, just because I came up with a formation it doesn't mean professional teams are going to use it. You even said it. They are "hypotetical formations", and they are different. Don't you get bored of the same formations over and over again? And what do rugby union have to do with this? This is a football website. And if I was Juande Ramos I would play with a 4-5-1 so I could win the midfield and not let Barcelona have the freedom to do what they want. I would have my players always double team on Messi, and Henry, and when ever Barcelona get the ball in midfield always have my players overrun the midfield, recover the ball, and counter attack. If you watched Barcelona games you can see they leave a lot of space.

RedrebelYes, Robert the 5-3-2 is similar to this. And you are also right about being fond of unconventional formations. The more options a manager has the more solutions there is.
12.12.2008
Robert O'CarlosAgree with having options, Redrebel.
:-D
The formation I was describing a bit earlier looked a little more like 3-3-2-2 to me, rather than 5-3-2, by the way. Never really had a flat 5 man midfield.
Also agree with Nvr that it would be good to discuss some upcoming matches tactically. I will try to be posting some formations for matches I like the look of for us all to debate.

nvrWhoa...No need to jump to your Tommy guns mate. Was just joking.
14.12.2008
Robert O'CarlosYou guys and your bickering!
:-D
Let's stop all this a-fussin' and a-fightin' and all go down the pub for a bevvy. Nvr's round!
;-)

RedrebelDon't worry nvr I don't got Tommy guns I got AR-15s.
17.12.2008
RedrebelIf you guys want me to make formations for matches I will.
