ZolaAppearently, Liverpool has a loan repayment of mere £350 million to RBS and Wachovia. The word out there is they will not be able to refinance the debt due to squeze in credit markets and their lender's situation. It seems that if they cannot find a new loan or the Yanks do not cough up, they may be repossesed by the banks.

They might be selling heavily during January transfer window and bring down the market.

Who would you want to see in your team from Liverpool?

Robert O'CarlosConcentrating only on those players that regularly appear for the 1st team:
Must keep Reina, Agger, Carragher, Alonso, Gerrard, Mascherano, Riera, Torres.
Could kick Dossena, Hyppia, Aurelio, Arbeloa, Insua, Degen, Skrtel, Benayoun, Pennant, Lucas, Plessis, Keane, Kuyt, Babel.
:-D
I'm not saying the kickable players above are useless and don't benefit the team in some way, but they could get money and replace them with similar talent of lesser value.
All the big EPL teams could end up in the same boat though. The worst being Chelsea who are in debt to just one source, Abramovich. If he decided enough's enough, Chelsea would be up Excrement Waterway without a valid means of propulsion.

nvrI doubt Abromovich will say enough. Chelsea is his PR tool and every pence he puts in is money well spent. He has too many shady businesses.

As for Liverpool, they'll probably try to make it to end of this season. They are in a strong position to win the league and you know, they do not get this opportunity very often. They wouldn't blow it by selling players. I think I read somewhere that they have the option to postpone their payments another 6 months. Meanwhile they'll hope for the financial markets to recover.

Robert O'CarlosAgree with you about Abramovich, Nvr. Safer to have your cash with Chelsea FC than the russian mafia.
;-D
Liverpool's trouble (and the reason they won't even finish top 2) is that, where Chelsea or Utd have quality players in every position, Liverpool carry too much dead weight in their 1st team: Arbeloa, Dossena, Babel, even Kuyt who isn't the best for that position. When they have spent money, their purchases have been poor. And, by poor, I mean poor for challenging for the EPL standards: Benayoun, Babel, Aurelio, Voronin.

ZolaInteresting to see Babel in your list. He's the top underutilised player in Liverpool's squad.

Robert O'CarlosTrue, Zola. And like Kuyt, he's wasted in Liverpool's system.

FeriAtsMike Ashley has given up selling Newcastle United, probably because he couldn't find any buyers due to credit crunch. No new owners, no cash to spend, no squad overhaul...
