RicardoWhat now for the Reds? They've just crashed out of the Champion's League and it's looking doubtful they'll be making it next year, what with all the petrodollars being pumped into close rivals ... what's the move? Sack Rafa? Plow $$$ into a decent second striker and a replacement for Alonso? Use the legendary "Miracle win" button the Reds are famous for??

FeriAtsThey should appoint a director of footbal as in most continental clubs. It's clear that Benitez is not the best in transfer market. I believe this is down to the fact that in Spain, transfer talks are held by directors of football. Juande Ramos was another example that got it completely wrong during transfer window. Guess where he is from.

liver4everwill liverpool ever get david villa?
25.11.2009
CaptainGerardBenitez is eyeing Ruud Van Nisterlooy, if media is to be believed. This could solve our stiker crisis in the short term.
From this point we will be fully concentrating on the Premier League. A top 4 finish is not unreachable.
25.11.2009
Robert O'CarlosFeel free to correct me here as I'm not certain about when appointments were made, but wasn't Juande Ramos the fall guy because Tottenham had used a separate transfer market guru in Damian Commoli?
Rafa does need to have the player spending taken away from him. Which may well mean he'd walk anyway because he threatened to before unless he was given complete control over such issues.
I just can't believe the board agreed.

liver4evercaptain gerrard stiker crisis?we have torres
25.11.2009
CaptainGerardYes we have Torres and he's great. Unfortunately, he's still a human being and gets injured every now and then. We need someone more assuring then Ngog, to back Torres up.
26.11.2009
Robert O'CarlosTo add to the debate, there are whispers that Torres is losing faith in his situation at Liverpool due to having to carry the team (a large part of why he left Atletico) and Benitez's desire to put off his much needed hernia operation which might jeapodise Torres's World Cup.
:-)
Crashing out of the CL may end up leaving Liverpool with little choice but to cash in. That would surely be a long way off but there have been clubs sniffing around Torres already. No smoke without fire?
26.11.2009
RicardoCrikey I don't believe they'd let go of Torres. Way too hard to attract his talent and the fans would lynch Rafa. Then who'd be up front? N'gog and Voronin? Puleease ... Need a little Defoe like fella next to Torres an they'd be quite a nice unit, plus an Alonso.
26.11.2009
FeriAtsI thought Commoli was involved in scouting side of the things.
Anyway, my point is a British manager would not have remained silent as Defoe, Keane and Berbatov were sold.
26.11.2009
fcbarcelona360first off, i think that tottenham, city, and villa maybe sunderland will finish above them this year leaving them at an intertoto cup spot at best. rafa should go, and they need to buy decent players, because they basically only have torres, gerrard and benayoun and when one of them are injured they will lose. They need to do this quick or who knows, liverpool football club may become the next leeds united in a few years time
08.12.2009
Robert O'CarlosI can't think that even Liverpool could be mismanaged to the extent of Leeds!
:-)
But it is going to take some serious investment for Liverpool to consolidate their position in English football, with little chance of much return with their stadium worries. A lot of people are saying they have been punching above their weight in recent times.
Flirting with mid table obscurity?
09.12.2009
nvr7th loss of the season already. Liverpool's season is truly over.
19.12.2009
Robert O'CarlosLiverpool's target for the season now is 4th place, not mounting a challenge for the top, so their season still has some legs yet.
:-)
They need to forget the Europa League and throw everything into getting that 4th spot. Otherwise they will be royally screwed for years to come.
20.12.2009
BmansheqMaking 4th isn't as hard as people are making out to be. A string of convincing wins and ur ups there, weve beaten man utd again without our stevie torres duo, but lost to many weaker teams due to our early season injuries and loss of Alonso...
Aquilani is in now and although he looks to have potential on attack, he must get used to the premier league style.. Torres is feeling frustration and isn't happy with calls (or lack of) for him. He is happy when he scores winners and he hasn't lately, and hasn't won a trophy which he is hunting for.
Getting out of the champions league is a big fall, but Real Madrid did the same nearly a few years back, and now are top of the table with a team worth more than ours and our subs or reserves combined!
The owners of liverpool, Gillette and Hicks, are dragging us more into debt, and sacking Rafa is not the answer mid season..
We need to take maximum points, earn our respect back, take easy wins and pull big matches to our side. Other teams drop many points throughout a season, we only lost them early. We stay consistant now, beat villa tomorrow, and hope for the other competitors to have slip ups, and even a top 3 can be seen!

Robert O'CarlosWell, I applaud your optimism Bman.
:-)
I think a lot also will depend on whether Liverpool can operate in the transfer window and get some worthwhile players through the doors (with some dross going the other way).
I would say that Spurs, City and Villa are looking at the table and realising this is their big chance to take a step up, so I would expect this season to be harder than it has been for a while. It will be a tightrope from now on, but Liverpool are a club with a great history and it would be a shame for them to slip backwards now.
:-)
30.12.2009
nvrSurely this must be the last straw, no? Reading are not the strongest Championship and Liverpool managed to give away a 1-0 lead at Anfield.
14.01.2010
Robert O'CarlosI think it's telling that Benitez came out in a press conference, admitted that Liverpool were pony at the moment, and apologised to the fans. He's obviously past the stage of making his excuses now.
:-)
I genuinely think this could well be the bottom of the barrel for Benitez. He's not inspiring the team or the fans any longer. I read somewhere that Gerrard and Carragher don't get on with him, and they are a massive influence with the players.
As I said earlier, Liverpool's only focus should have been the League, at the expense of all other competitions. Losing Gerrard and Torres to an FA Cup game says it all.
:-)
