GeorgieWasTheBestI was just watching Tottenham-Al City game. Don't ask me why, there was nothing on TV. Anyway Spurs gave them a proper beating; a well deserved 3-0 win.

It's only 1 win out of last 10 games for Hughes now. They've spent quite a bit of money and the owners must be unhappy about the value they're getting for their petrodollars.

How many games does he have at the helm? Who would replace him?

Robert O'CarlosThe rumour mill has been saying Guus Hiddink for quite a while now, if they can get him.
:-)

If it was going to happen, it needs to happen in the next 10 days so a new man gets a look at the transfer window. Not much time to get to know the squad beforehand tho.

I can't see Hughes going before the end of the season now. Unless City have an absolutely horrendous run.
:-)

FeriAtsSchadenfreude? Well, I reckon you guys are entitled to it after Tevez deal.

The last team that bought their way to top of the league was Blackburn Rovers. I am leaving Chelsea out, because they already were a top 4 contender when the Russian bought them. City's situation is more like Rover's. Jack Walker had to keep buying for four years till he got his silverware.

What I am saying is it might be a bit unfair to blame Hughes for the poor run. The nature of the beast is, success takes time as much as it takes money.

17.12.2009

ZolaI believe Hughes was not a proven manager to work with big budgets and big stars. The way he handled Elano situation comes to mind.

But then again given their track record in transfers, it's not suprising that they had the wrong man for the job.

17.12.2009

Robert O'CarlosReported today that Hiddink's agent has been making it public about Garry Cook, the City executive, having had meetings with the dutchman with a view to taking over at City.
:-)

18.12.2009

FeriAtsHiddink is a decent manager and will make bags of difference. If they appoint him qucikly, they might have a chance of fighting for the top four this season.

18.12.2009

Robert O'CarlosNot sure what it is but City are slowly winning me over this season. With Hughes gone, I'll not have too many reasons to dislike them.
:-)

Don't have many problems with Villa either, but I went right off 'Arry after the Darren Bent thing last year. So I wouldn't mind at all if 4th spot went to City or Villa.
:-)

No matter who's in charge, City will need to plough the transfer market for a few defensively minded players.

19.12.2009

Robert O'CarlosWell, there's your answer. An hour or two after the Sunderland match.
:-)

Roberto Mancini is not the right choice for a forward based club like City. Hmmm.

19.12.2009

nvrIt's cleat that City's owners do not know much about football. They must be trying to pull an Ancelotti. But Mancini is not half the coach Ancelotti is.

19.12.2009

GeorgieWasTheBestMancini is not that bad a selection. City was leaking too many goals and giving away too many leads. Who better than an Italian for a solution? They might be active in the January for defenders, possibly with Serie A experience.

20.12.2009

Robert O'CarlosChiellini and Maicon are said to be Mancini's first targets.
:-)

Could be all change at City soon. Garry Cook has distanced himself behind the scenes from the Mancini appointment. He'll be the next on his way then.
:-)

nvrTorygraph says that Bellamy has handed a January transfer request after Hughes' sacking.

Would I be cynical, if I said he's after more money following his somewhat decent run?

21.12.2009

RicardoI think Bellamy was there only because Hughes needed an ally on field. With Hughes gone I doubt he's going to get field time which is a shame as he has proved himself in the team, probably bound for a West Ham or similar struggling side ... I hope City doesn't become a side managed by the supporters like a lot of continental sides.

23.12.2009

FeriAtsTo be fair to the Citizens, they didn't call for Hughes' sacking. It was Sheik Mansour's decission.

The last manager sacked by supporter's pressure was David O'Leary from Aston Villa if I'm not mistaken.
