The secret strength of this formation comes from the combonation of Rikjaard and Redondo with the back three of Baresi, Maldini and Beckenbauer and how they would change during times of possession and defending. This would enable the team to be always in a situation where they have the numerical advantage
With Carles and Cafu partolling the wings and causing havoc down the oppositions flanks, would clear up space for the likes of Cruyff and Maradona to exploit.
The formation is also quite flexible as well when in possession and 1 of the wingbacks goes up into opposition half the other drops back and integrates himself as a proper side back, and at the same time one of the centerbacks fills the spot of the wing back that is in the oppositions half. Which makes is a 4-3-2-1 when not in possesion.

GeorgieWasTheBestCan't argue with this, as we will never have the chance of playing these players together, at their primes. We won't know if this team would have any chemistry in it. Some of these were quite a bit of a character.

ShevtonicYes i did consider that but i'd thought it be irrelevant becuase this was just a fantasy team the best team i've seen was milan 89/90
17.08.2010
FeriAtsDo you reckon they were better than Guardiola's Barcelona?
18.08.2010
Shevtonicyes without a doubt, that milan team had everything, strength, speed, technique and masterfully tactically set up.
4-3-3 is very vulnerable to counters IF u can get the ball out've midfield to its flanks, which many teams aren't capable of doing against barca, but i certain that Ruud and co. would'vé managed it.
You have seen barca press and apply pressure when they are not in possession , but you should've seen how that milan team did it.
Either way it would've been a great match, there was an instance however where Milan Thrashed Cruyff's Dream Barca team 4-0 in the Champions League final in 1994/1995

FeriAtsI think the main difference was Van Basten. Guardiola wanted Ibra in that role, but it didn't work yet.
19.08.2010
ShevtonicExactly They have no height in the final third of the pitch, Which is why Pique is a vital part of their team, his charging runs into the box immediately gives the barca wing men a target man

SPARTAN Very good selection honestly but i'd prefer YASHIN - MOORE,BAREZI,MALDINI - BECKENBAUER,RIKJAARD,DJALMA SANTOS,NILTON SANTOS or MOURATIS(greek Olympiakos full back,1945-1954,the first and best ever,126 goals) - CRUYFF,MARADONA,PELE.
But your choices are very good!
19.08.2010
ShevtonicI wa comtemplating Moore and Yashin, if it were not for my Italian bais, but Zoff not that far from Yashin although yashin was the only gk to win Ballon'D or

trane333Pele is the greatest, but I am not sure I would play him as the CF in that formation.

DioThe formation in perfect, it fits well.
But Cafu and R. Carlos? Lol, Brazil had betters wingbacks.
And Pelé wasnt a CF, he was an ofensive midfielder like Cruyff or Maradona in this formation.
