meggysToday, I read this article on the Liverpool Website:
http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/latest-news/debate-johnson-on-the-wing

And it reminded me of some Liverpool supporters wanting Johnson to play on the right wing already last year. Well I think with this years squad, it's time for that change. In my opinion, Kelly has become good enough to play in the starting XI on a regular basis. So Johnson can switch further forward and can play on the right-hand side in midfield. That would mean that Kuyt plays just behind Torres and Cole switches to the left. The left winger should play a bit more attacking than the right one so Kuyt can still switch back to the right wing in some occasions to open space for Gerrard or Meireles to help attacking from behind. I would not call it 4-2-3-1 nor would I call it 4-4-2 or 4-4-1-1. It's something in between those three formations. Another important fact is that the players could be replaced without losing so much quality if you play this system. N'Gog succeed in replacing Torres if he is supportet enough by 2nd striker Dirk Kuyt. Poulsen or Lucas can come in in central midfield so can Jovanovic, Maxi, Babel and Pacheco be used on the wings or as 2nd striker.

I hope you like it. Maybe Roy Hodgson is brave enough to try it in reality.

nvrDisclaimer: not a Liverpool fan

Playing as a winger and coming into an attack as an extra man are two very different things. Former needs agility and explosiveness. Johnson is neither agile nor explosive. I say it wouldn't work.
