malcontentjakeOnce the dust settled after a tumultuous first half of the season which saw several key players injured, Ljungberg leave town, and a couple key mid-summer signings; Sigi settled on this starting 11 in league play. It went on to have great success, and the Sounders went on to have a great second half of the season after a rough first half.

Sigi decided to use two defensive midfielders, preferring to start Sturgis in place of more attack-minded midfield options. The outside midfielders were very attack-minded and played almost as high as forwards, often giving this almost a 4-2-4 look. Montero tended to drop off and roam more, with Nkufo as more of a traditional center forward, although often Montero would be the higher of the two players.
