Joe423Just watched this again.

As you can see from my diagram, United's midfield was said to be Giggs - Carrick - Anderson but actually panned out liked a 4-4-1-1 with Giggs usually just behind or alongside Ronaldo. Anderson and Carrick were surrounded by the Diamond of Busquets - Iniesta - Xavi - Messi and had no chance.

Rooney was wasted on the left as his tracking back had no use against Puyol who didn't want to go forward.

When Anderson got took of and replaced with Tevez the team just basically decided to give Barcelona the midfield and Carrick being the holding player was the main source of blame for Barcelona's domination. He did have a bad game, but if he was supported by more than a naive Anderson then Barcelona's job would have been harder.

If Sir Alex goes 4-4-1-1, Rooney need's to pick up Busquets. If he stays to Close to Hernandez, the midfield will be conceded and the same thing could happen again.
