gazlfcforeverWhat a selection of forwards Argentina have! Unfortunately they lack the play makers of Xavi and Iniesta quality. Both Cambiasso and Mascherano are holding midfield players who prefer to play the ball simple rather than a incisive pass. This setup however would allow Messi and Tevez to operate as false 9s with Aguero as the creative force. Tevez and Messi would drag the centre backs out of position and allow Lavezzi and Aguero to exploit the space.

ZolaWhy not a proper 4-4-2? Aren't Lavezzi and Aguero proper strikers?

gazlfcforever4-4-2 doesn't work at international level, this formation would allow both messi and tevez to play their proper game and allow a fluid formation

ZolaWhy not? Genuine question. Do you mean it doesn't work for Argies?

gazlfcforeverThe main problem with 4-4-2 at international level is that retaining possession is more difficult, your two centre midfielders are often outnumbered and the two forwards lack service to be effective.

The problem is usually solved by playing one forward deeper in more of a 4-4-1-1 but messi and tevez play a very similar role and neither is an advanced forward, this way both can play in their natural role and the opposition centre backs would have nothing to do and therefore create loads of space for Lavezzi and Aguero to exploit and of course Messi and Tevez with deeper runs.
