GerrardTorresLast season Dalglish used the 3-5-2 formation very successfully. For this reason, I quite fancy this line-up.
This formation does depend on the opposition, but I think if practised, it could work for a lot of games.
Carra organises the back 3 to do the gritty stuff, as well as linking up with Lucas and Adam.
Lucas and Adam control from deep with their pin-point passing.
Gerrard in the hole creates chances and pushes forward for his own.
Kuyt and Henderson run the line up and down, into open spaces and channels as well as cross it into the box for Carroll's head.
Suarez.....well, enough said.

Proffessional_Ameteur_RED3-5-2 is a seriously viable formation for Liverpool. But I cant I think it will resemble more of a 3-4-3. Suarez playing on the left cutting in, Kuyt on the right, Carrol centre. Then the 4 midfielders should boss most other teams. The combination of players available to liverpool offers them a lot of positional flexibility. (from a MU fan!) A 4 man midfield would be so dominant.

DW9This team would get ripped apart by good wingers. 3-5-2 to me is only as good as your wingbacks and you don't have any. 3xCB & 2xCDM, 5 defensive but all central. Every time the opposition run it down the wing they take a CB wide leaving 2 in the middle. If that winger gets past him the other two would be seriously out-numbered and is asking too much from your CDM. Lucas would spend the whole match in the defensive line.
Ideally you want one wingback to drop back when the other is forward leaving your one central defensive midfielder to keep his position. Wingbacks linking up with the attacking 4 going forward.
Btw Johnson as a CB would not be my first choice. I think he's best left tackling outside the box.

GerrardTorresYou're right, Skrtel and Carragher, definately not wing-backs....but maybe if you were to put Johnson on the left and Kelly on the right (take off skrtel) I would call them sufficient wing-backs.

mojojojo101No manager is going to play 3-5-2 or any formation with 3 at the back regulalrly when so many teams play just 1 man up front and have attacking full backs. It creates an excess of players in the central defence area which would be better exploited matching up against opposing full backs.
If you really wanted to force it to work you would need to defend very narrow and have 3 defenders who are completeley dominant in the air... youthen would encourage the opponent to cross the ball where you can clear and then hit them on the counter... it would be incredibly risky tactic though, especially against teams who are fluid and/or build up play patiently
The 3-5-2 worked against Chelsea last season because they played two strikers whose movement was frankly, rubbish and really didn't look to push on thier full-backs nearly enough.
