david1993i think this is Chelsea best defense as alex coming in for luis will make the defense stronger and better able cope.it may not be able to cope for high line due to lack of paste .

i think luis would do very good as a midfielder as his range of passing is very good and he has lots of energy to help attack and defend ,

ramires is playing better than last year and has settled into to premier league and is capable to keep running for 90 mins but unlike meireles, Ramires isnt able to produce the passing of meireles

torres should be given a chance and run of games as he work rate is high and is trying but isnt getting the goals but sooner he gets run of games the goals will come

mata will help to put the ball in for torres to help set him up

ZolaNot enough balance IMHO. We should play with two defensive mids given the amount of goals we concede.

david1993@zola i agree but im using the formation andre villa boas plays with at the moment.
the formation is adaptable to play with 2 defensive mids to play 4-2-3-1

ZolaI like this one a lot better. Assuming fit I'd rather have Essien in here too.

david1993I didnt put essien on because he is injured but if he was fully fit he would be 1st player on team in my view he is one of if not best defensive midfeild player in world

mojojojo101I seem to be the only person in England who doesn't think that Luis should be playing as a defensive midfielder, to me his abiliy on the bal needs to be exploited and by putting him at center back you give him the time and space to pick a pass and get forward if possible.
If he can learn to better control those runs as well as learn when to abandon them there is no reason why he cant be an important part of the chelsea squad. He is also the only defender in the chelsea squad who still has the neccesary pace to be as high a line as AVB wants to.
It would also help chelsea if, when Luiz pushes on into midfield the anchor man (mikel?) drops into cover him, ramires did it okay towards the end of the liverpool game and tbh I'm suprised its something we haven't seen more of from chelsea his season.

However the most important thing for chelsea right now ( assuming ABBY is going to continue to play a high line ) is to improve their pressing from the front. Selection wise that would probably picking torres over drogba as well as a pair of miereles and ramires in the middle of the park. Lampard still has his qualities but chasing the ball down isnt one of them.

ZolaAll good points mojojojo. You can try to hammer your squad till they fit in a philosophy or you can change your philosophy to suit your personnel. The latter is much more pragmatic IMHO.

mojojojo101Or you can change the players...

ABV is no pragmatist and in my opinion is unlikely to return chelsea to what they have resembled ever since mourinho arrived, a generally defensive team who rely heavily on long balls and midfield runners rather than intricate passing to create chances. He may move his defense slightly deeper for the time being but the fans and abramovich will need to show patience and allow AVB the time to bring about as a large a change in playstyle.

david1993@mojojojo101 i would like to see how Luis would play as defensive midfielder as his range of passing is very good.
i seen him play for Benfica and he defensive quality was outstanding and that's why Chelsea bought .
on Villas boas he does need time to stamp his own style on chelsea he was brought in late and didnt have enough time as he would have likes
