G.K.Hello, I'm here to present my concept of the 3-6-1 Formation.

I know it's not new, Australia used it in WC '06. Just one example of many, without notability. However, I reckon in the way I would play it, football could have another dominant formation.

The formation relies upon high workrate in regard to pressing, dynamism in shifting from attack to defence and vice versa, ability of players to play several positions, intelligent movement from the false 9 and vision and creativity from all attacking players.

Team attacks usually see 1 wing back attacking , with the other dropping back into the defense, forming a back 4, with one of the CB's moving across to LB/RB and the other CB's shifting along too. The False 9 creates space for runs from the AM's, and the attacking wing back and CM join in also.

Upon loss of the ball, attacking players will press the players with the ball high up the pitch, in an attempt to win back the ball. The spare wingback can press an overlapping fullback. The team should always have a spare man in midfield to keep control. That is the Deep Midfielder, who has to have interceptive qualities, intelligent manning of space and defensive positioning as well as a range of passes, and can be the architect of play.

Here are the pressing formations against seveal common formations this team would use:

<-- Vs 4-4-2

<-- Vs 4-2-3-1

<-- Vs Dungan Lopsided 4-3-2-1

<-- Vs 3-5-2

Should a man be put on the DLM, a few defenders would push forward to consfuse the pressers and create extra options, shown in

People's thoughts on this concept?

chicarooneyTBH that looks very interesting , only the defense would be dodgy with only 3 in it.

G.K.The aim is to ususally have a back 4, despite the formation nominally having a back 3, but critically to have flexibility from 2-6 depending on the situations. With players that aren't static to one role, it's easier to adapt to any situation, any tactical changes brought against us.

nvrThat would only work with the correct squad. Majority of defenders won't be able to adapt to a 3 men defence, at leas not before struggling a few months first. If you have defenders who have experience with 3 men defence, than it can work.

mojojojo101Udinese's 3-5-1-1 might be a good watch if your interested in a system like this.
