With the transfer of Meireles to Fenerbahce, I've been hearing people carrying on about the depth (or lack thereof) in the Chelsea midfield. I think it's a bunch of BS because they still have good midfielders that can get the job done. While Lampard or Ramires are placed in one of the holding positions, I can imagine that they would still have the freedom to make runs into the final third as they see fit, while Mikel will still maintain a more traditional holding position. I would also like to see Oscar or Marin on the right flank as well; I've been impressed with what I've seen from Oscar...the kid has a bright future ahead of him. And of course, it all starts with Hazard in the No. 10 slot...

I've put Azpilicueta in at right back instead of Ivanovich, as I think the young Spaniard is more of a natural fullback than Branna is. Bertrand can come in on the left wing late to provide some spark, while Lampard and Ramires are interchangeable as well as Oscar and Marin. As for up front, it's all up to Torres...as much as I like Daniel Sturridge, I think he does better attacking from the right flank where he can get off shots with his good left foot instead of being a true No. 9 like Torres.

What do you think?

EL NINO#9luiz should be next to cahill's name to swap. same as ivanovic with cesar.but this is superb!

CrocoOh, right! My bad, I should've known better.

Though with this lineup, David Luiz will have some competition for center-back duties alongside Terry with Ivanovich, as he has experience in that position as well. I think it would actually be better if he moved back to that position once Azpilicueta has gotten acclimated to the club and the style of play at Chelsea, but you're right on that count as well. He's still a pretty good fullback as well.

mojojojo101Personally I think that Chelsea shouldn't really be using all 3 of Oscar, Hazard and Mata in the 'band of 3' behind Torres. It makes them very easy to defend against as all three players are trying to move into the same area of the pitch.

Using one of Sturridge/Moses or Ramires on the right hand side would add a different dimension to Chelsea's attack as well as stretching the play for the 2 other attacking midfielders to work in.

liomessi1324Good lineup! I agree with mojojojo101,there would be no width with Hazard,Oscar,Mata. At least 1 player who can stay out wide and stretch the play should be in the front 3.

Croco@mojojojo101 - If that's the case, then I would rather have Sturridge on the right until Moses can settle in with the club. Ramires is more of a box-to-box midfielder than a winger, which is why I can see him slotting in where Lampard is.
