RedrebelIf you look at this formation you can see that wing play would be abundant and dangerous, but if you look at the last line you see a problem. It's a back 2. A lot of you are going to say "nobody uses this formation anymore". And it is true this formation was probably used around the 1920s. But, if you get the correct players, correct tactics, and correct runs this formation can be used again successfully. What do you think? Do you believe this formation can be used in modern football?

RedrebelWhat do you think guys?

nvrWhat's next Rebel? A formation with only one defender?

What makes a team offensive is not the formation. Both Arsenal and Everton play 4-4-2. Everton os probably the most defensive team in EPL, whereas Arsenal seems to do nothing other than attacking.

So what makes a team offensive? As far as I can tell, it is all about the distance between the last man in your defense(excluding the goalie of course) and the man most up front. The smaller the distance the more offensive the team. The formation is only helpful if it reduces that distance.

RedrebelYou are right nvr the formation doesn't make a team offensive, but this formation looks offensive. The reason I made this formation is because almost everybody makes and likes the 4-4-2 in this website and its becoming kind of boring. I understand why people like it and that is because the 4-4-2 is a well balanced formation, but I personally don't like it. I like the 4-4-2 diamond, but not the standard one. I am a believer of attacking football and I specially like the way Arsenal plays. So, I just made this formation for fun and for something different.

nvrI guess people are not trying to advocate 4-4-2 with their stuff; they are just talking about who will start the next game for their team. 4-4-2 just happens to be most popular formation.

RedrebelI really like formations that play with 3 attackers because they keep the opponents defense on check and they think twice about it when they attack because in a counter strike all you need is 3 attackers to score.

Robert O'Carlos4-3-3 works good against a back 4 if the wingers stay wide. Then the full backs can't get forward so you tie up 4 opponents with 3 players effectively. Job's a good 'un! ;-)
4-4-2 is the usual but don't forget the full backs often play further forward that the centre backs and the wide midfielders often play further forward that the central midfielders (almost like 2-2-2-2-2). Maybe this 2-4-4 effort is what a 4-4-2 looks like when attacking.
You can't know if a formation works unless you know the system. It's all about the system!! ;-)

RedrebelYep, you are correct.
