lesliewith lampard playing behind torres and drogba as an offensive mid, essien, ramires and mikel doing the dirty work in the centre of the park.efficient because the wing backs have more freedom to overlap and bring in crosses.

nvrSurely, Essien would be a better choice for a position in front of center backs. Swap him with Mikel, I say.

gazlfcforeverThe purchase of Torres has basically messed up the entire Chelsea shape. Drogba and Torres are far too similar, the lack of tactical flexibility from both of them forces two strikers up front which then creates problems for Lampard because he can't make the same amount of forward runs and Anelka can't fit into the team with them because three strikers on the pitch makes it difficult to create width and retain possession.
If Chelsea use a diamond formation then because of the purchase of Luiz, Ivanovic needs to be dropped because he doesn't provide the require width going forward.
For me this is a classic case of the owner going mental and completely breaking the team balance by bring players in that disrupt the balance of the side rather than add to it.

FeriAtsDidn't Chelsea's form dip long before January transfer window?
15.02.2011
gazlfcforeverIt dipped when Wilkins left but that wasn't my point anyway, the point is that the owner has destroyed the team structure with the players he's brought in.

FeriAtsMy point is there was no team structure to begin with. Drogba is 33, with his style of game, there isn't many years left in him. Any structure depending on him is doomed to fail.

deg0eyAgree with most of what's been posted here. I think a similar formation to that which Liverpool seem to be using recently would be more effective. Playing Luiz, Ivanovic and Terry together at the back would give Cole and Bosingwa much more license to get forward and cause problems - which is required because they pretty much give the team's entire width at the moment.
Next season, I would send Drogba back to Marseille and play Sturridge off of Torres - a player with more pace and finesse would be a better complement to Torres than Drogba and improve the offensive capabilities of the team.
For now, it's just important to try and make it work with some system or other to ensure Champions League qualification otherwise it all falls apart, a la LFC.
