JoeymacUsing the Manchester United squad, without transfers, I've converted Rooney to a CAM. This will give him more room on the ball, and possible more space to work with. Hernandez's speed is coupled with Berbatov's languidness and ability to hold the ball up top, letting Rooney make runs from the attacking midfield. Fletcher is left as a holding midfielder, with Nani and Valencia on the flanks.

mojojojo101In my opinion I think playing Rooney behind 2 strikers would actually give him less freedom, he would obliged to drop into midfield and help out Fletcher or we (United) would risk being over run in the middle of the park.
I think the best thing about Rooney's withdrawn striker role at the moment is that he has the freedom to drop back and create but is not relied upon in a defensive capacity, and hence can concentrate on the attacking part of his game.

Joeymacgood point, about the possibility of him actually having less time on he ball.
i decided to see what our squad would look like without transfers, and to me, only Rooney's passing comes close to Scholes'.
Plus, it would ensure that our both of our leading scorers can be on the pitch.
But ideally, with transfers, I'd opt for Modric, and keep Rooney as a withdrawn striker.
